Moving to Meridian

Formerly a quiet farming town, Meridian, Idaho, is now the second-largest city in Idaho thanks to a booming growth period that has made it one of the fastest-growing cities in the entire country. Academics

Meridan’s families have a plethora of options when it comes to education. The city is served by Joint School District No. 2, also called West Ada School District. While the school district serves several cities, in Meridian alone, there are nine high schools, five middle schools and 14 elementary schools. For students who want to continue their education close to home, there are several two-year, four-year and technical schools located in the city or nearby, including the Meridian campus of Idaho State University.

The Meridian Parks and Recreation District is active in maintaining beautiful spaces for residents to live and play in, reinforcing the sense of community that is prevalent throughout the community. Transportation

Valley Regional Transit (VRT) serves the region, operating a public bus system that transports residents within the Meridian area and between outlying cities in Ada and Canyon counties. VRT also contracts with Harvest Transit by Harvest Church Meridian, a completely free transportation service for elderly and disabled residents.

Health Care

The local Meridian government strives to ensure that health care, including mental health, services are accessible and convenient to all residents. Several major health care systems serve residents, including award-winning St. Luke’s Meridian Medical Center, Bella Family Health Care, Meridian Primary Health Care Group and Unity Health. In addition to preventive, emergency and specialized care, Mountain West Medical Services provides holistic care to residents.

Demographics

Touted as one of the safest cities in the state, the Meridian Police Department takes great pride in being very engaged with the community to keep its neighborhoods free of crime. In polls conducted by AreaVibes.com, 77% of respondents reported that they feel safe at night in Meridian. Crime reports show an average total crime rate that is 57% lower than the national average.
